I love the geometric, multifaceted, strong shape of this piece with its deep violet color encased in crystal glass. As you can see from my site, I’m a massive fan of Murano pieces and using them in decorating. I feel a room is simply empty and bland without these wonderful pieces scattered about.
This is a striking large size that would add a lot of drama to a space.
Plus they add history, character and story to a space due to the rich history of Murano.
Venice was a port town as early as the 7th century. It is believed that glassmaking in Murano originated in 8th century Rome, with significant Asian and Muslim influences, as Venice was a major trading port. Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glassmakers were so valuable that leaving the region was punishable by death.
