Blue and Teal Sommerso Murano Glass Bowl

I have a lot of Murano glass and I love putting different groups of matching colors in different rooms to add color, light and texture to a room. This is a wonderful multicolored blue and teal Sommerso glass bowl. I love the way it picks up light and its differentiation in colour which you can see from the photos.  It would look great in an entryway on a console or on a coffee table on a stack of books. It could also be practical of course and sit on a dressing table holding various bits and bobs.

It is believed that glassmaking in Murano originated in 8th century Rome, with significant Asian and Muslim influences, as Venice was a major trading port. Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291.
