As you can see from my website…I love all things Murano glass. The italians are true masters of glass and this piece demonstates that perfectly.
This is the most unusally shaped piece I have seen which is why I had to have it…its rare shape and strong curves command presence. Its rich, deep gleam adds the perfect light and depth to your space. . It would be fabulous diplayed on your favorite table as a showpiece. Very chic and sexy.
The basic principle of Somersso involves submerging different colored glass beneath clear glass which creates wonderful shine, color and drama. Its technique is unique in that it takes a solid layer of molten colored glass and seals it with clear glass so the 1st layer does not fade into the next layered color.
It is believed that glassmaking in Murano originated in 8th century Rome, with significant Asian and Muslim influences, as Venice was a major trading port. Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291.
