Teal Murano Glass Folded Bowl c. 1960

Normally I group my Murano glass pieces but this is such a unique color and has such a strong shape that it can easily stand alone. It’s a lovely shade of teal and would look fantastic in an entryway on a console. A unique shape.

It is believed that glassmaking in Murano originated in 8th century Rome, with significant Asian and Muslim influences, as Venice was a major trading port. Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction of the city’s mostly wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291.
